Posted January 11, 2018 05:22:28 If you’re the type of person who has a garage ready freezer, you might want to consider getting the most from your fridge.
A recent survey by online storage giant Google found that most Canadians would happily spend the equivalent of $20 per month to keep a garage freezer running.
However, a few things should be kept in mind before buying a new one.
“There are a number of factors that you should consider before deciding to buy a new garage ready or garage ready refrigerator,” said Kevin McVay, senior director of research and analytics for Google Storage, in a statement.
“The number of days per year that you want the freezer to run is going to determine how much money you’ll be able to spend.
If you’ve got a garage, you’re not going to want to spend the same amount of money to maintain a fridge.”
For instance, many owners will likely need to spend more than a month to fully upgrade a garage fridge and that will be even more of a hassle if the fridge runs continuously.
Another factor to consider is the quality of the refrigerator itself.
Some models can only keep their temperature to about 70 degrees Celsius, while others can hold their temperatures as high as 180 degrees Celsius.
“If you’re looking to save money, consider a refrigerator that can handle a maximum of two months of operation, but you’ll likely have to do a bit of work to make it last longer,” McVee said.
While it may sound like a lot of money, McVey said that buying a garage-ready fridge should not be confused with the cheaper, home-use version of a refrigerator.
“Garage-ready refrigerators are not meant for home use,” he said.
“They are intended for use in the garage, in which case they should only be used as a replacement for a fridge in the living room or kitchen.”
A garage-like fridge is often a better choice for people who want to save a bit on space and maintenance, Mcvay said.
